Domain Forwarding
Service
-
What Is Domain Forwarding?
Domain forwarding is the when you direct a domain 'www'
name to another existing website on the Internet. When
a request for your site comes to our server, it forwards
them to your existing website online. So wherever
your information is held online, we can direct your visitors
to it.
-
Is your
website address too long?
Addresses such as http://www.ispname.com/members/yourname
can be replaced with your own 'www' domain name.
Order a web hosting package from CSInet today,
and we’ll waive the Domain registration fee!
(This area of CSInet
is designed to check and reserve, or "Park", a domain
name for later use. If you are ready to sign up for a CSInet
web hosting package, you can enter your domain request in
that sign-up process and skip this step.)

- Your contact information is important - keep it current.
- Keep the domain name as short as possible and easy to
remember. People will be typing it, so it should immediately
convey the concept of your company name, product, type
of business, or corporate culture. Be ready to have this
name on all of your printed business materials.
- Avoid anything that would be confusing or possibly offensive.
- Do not infringe on someone else's trademarked name,
or you may get the domain name you wanted, but ultimately
find that you are not able to keep it. For more information
see the Network Solutions Domain Name Dispute Policy (Rev
03).
- Keep in mind Network Solutions' requirements for domain
names.
- Characters must be alphabetic (a-z), numeric (0-9),
minus sign (-), and period (.) Maximum total of 26 characters,
including the top-level designation (.com,.org, .net).
- First character must be alphabetic.
- Periods have special uses. It is best to avoid them.
- Last character may not be a minus sign or a period.
- Single character names are not allowed.
- There can be no spaces in a domain name.
- Your domain should not contain the word "gateway",
unless the machine actually serves as a gateway.

When you are transferring an existing domain
name to CSInet, Network Solutions requires a different process
than that of a new domain registration. Follow these quick
and easy steps to have your domain name record modified to
use CSInet Domain Name Servers and our hosting services:
Step 1. Verify
the Change
When Network Solutions receives a registration
form for an existing domain name, they must verify with the
current owners that they do indeed want this modification
to take place. So, they e-mail both the current Administrative
and Technical Contacts, as listed on the current Whois record
of your domain name.
Either contact may approve (ACK) or deny
(NAK) the modification. Network Solutions will follow the
direction of the e-mail they receive first, provided it is
from one of the current contacts, as listed in the Whois record
of your domain.
Step 2. Acknowledge
the Change
Before the modification may take place, several
things must be done:
- You must have access to the e-mailbox as listed
for the Administrative Contact so that you may reply back
to Network Solutions with an ACK. Notify the current
Technical Contact that you will be modifying the domain
name so that they will not deny the modification, thinking
that someone is trying to "steal" the domain name
from you. To find out the current Administrative and Technical
Contact information, look up the current listing for your
domain name, using this Whois query:
If you do not have access to the e-mailbox as listed in
the Whois record, you will need to follow a different procedure.
- When Network Solutions receives your domain registration
template, they will assign a tracking number to your domain
modification. You will receive an e-mail from them (at the
Administrative Contact e-mail address) which will resemble
the following:

Example of an E-Mail from Network Solutions:
Please reply to this message to confirm that the following update

- When you receive this e-mail message from Network Solutions,
simply use your e-mail program to reply to the message,
being sure to quote the entire message. Also make sure the
From: line in your reply shows the same e-mail address as
is listed in the Whois record. In the reply, enter "ACK"
or "A" in the line marked 0a, as shown below:

Final Step
Final Step Send this message on to Network
Solutions. It will allow them to modify your domain record
to use our Domain Name Servers. You will receive an autoresponse
from them, letting you know that your authorization has been
received. This autoresponse is not a notice that your modification
has been approved; it is simply to let you know that your
part in this process has been completed.
Both you and CSInet will receive another e-mail from Network
Solutions once they have modified your domain name record.
Before it actually points to your hosting space here at CSInet,
we must enter it into our Domain Name Service, and it must
propagate around to other name servers on the Internet. We
will e-mail you to confirm that your domain was added to our
Domain Name Servers.
If you have questions about registering or transferring your
domain name, please contact sales@csinet.com,
or call 219.326.5252 or 888.CSINET.1. |
